Zhůřská pláň

natural reserve

Zhurska plan natural reserve (swamp, part of Sumava national park) is a nature reserve (part of a bigger unit known as the Sumava Protected Nature Reserve - mountain range running along the south-eastern border of the Czech Republic with Germany´s Bavaria) situated approximately 8 or 9 kilometres south of a small town of Cachrov (near the district town of Klatovy) in the vicinity of the border with Germany.

The reason for protection of this area is the presence of unique peat-bog habitats typical for wetland locations. Its unique elevation of between 915 and 1005 metres above the sea level makes this area one of the key sources of water for lower-situated areas. This nature spot is an ideal stop-over for all lovers of unspoilt flora and fauna. Although, Zhurska plan is a detour of approximately 1.5 hours when travelling between Prague and Nuremberg, it is definitely a worthwhile experience.
