Strakonice

south Bohemian town with castle

Strakonice is a town situated about 50 km from České Budějovice at the confluence of two rivers- Otava and Volyňka. It’s popular for its castle, a combination of several architectonic styles (gothic, baroque etc.), founded at the beginning of the 13 century by Bavor I.

Another popular sight is the Baroque Marian slope (column, St. Margareth’s church), St. Weneslas church (originally a cemetarian gothic church with baroque alterations) and many other historical buildings and architecture. The town is also popular for its International Bagpiper Festival, that takes place every two years. It has its own brewery, founded in 1649, that produces Dudák beer.
