Sankt Wolfgang

picturesque town situated at a lake

St Wolfgang im Salzkammergut is a picturesque town of just under 3000 inhabitants situated at the Wolfgangsee Lake in a dramatic scenery at the foot of the Austrian Alps. The town offers a few attractions, including the Gothic church, a spa complex, and a mountain railway. A must is a boat ride on the turquoise waters of the Wolfgangsee Lake.n

The history of St Wolfgang dates back to the end of 10th century. Like the majority of places situated in the Salzkammergut (i.e. the “Salt Chamber”), the fame of St Wolfgang originates in salt mining. nWe recommend to allow ideally 1 or 2 days to soak in the atmosphere of the location and its surroundings. St Wolfgang is an ideal destination for lovers of nature, trekking, hiking, mountain biking spring to autumn, and skiers in winter.nAlternatively, you can choose to visit St Wolfgang for appr. 2 hours to enjoy your lunch at e.g. the legendary White Horse Inn (Hotel Weißes Rössl) and breathing in a bit of fresh Alpine air before continuing on your journey.
